Clarity from the very beginning

A foundation
built on trust.

Decks4Vets is a new initiative led by Charley Nell of Charley’s Decks. Here is where things stand today.

Before giving opens

We will identify the legal organization receiving funds, publish its tax status and any applicable EIN, establish payment processing, and address applicable fundraising registration requirements. Donors will be able to see the receiving organization and receipt information before making a gift.

Tax deductibility

Owning a .org domain or helping veterans does not, by itself, make a gift tax deductible. Charitable deductions generally require a contribution to a qualified organization and are subject to the donor’s circumstances and the law. Gifts directly to individuals are not deductible charitable contributions. We are not promising a deduction for future gifts. See the IRS explanation of charitable contributions and confirm your own situation with your tax adviser.

The relationship with Charley’s Decks

Charley owns Charley’s Decks, a separate building business. His goal is to use his building experience to help veterans through Decks4Vets. The planned arrangement is that Charley’s Decks, when involved, will donate its labor. Approved subcontractors may charge for labor and materials. Before accepting donations, we plan to publish the project-cost and contractor-compensation policy, including materials, travel, administration, and any paid work. We are not claiming that every dollar goes directly to a veteran or that every contractor’s labor is donated.

Project selection and future reporting

Selected Decks4Vets projects are provided at no cost to the veteran. Veterans and their families are not required to donate or fundraise. Nominations begin a review; they do not guarantee selection, funding, or a build date. Project feasibility, veteran need, property permission, permits, resources, and location will matter. Our intention is to share project plans, budgets, and progress as projects take shape, while respecting each veteran’s privacy.

Our starting point

The planned launch region is Ohio, eastern Indiana, western Pennsylvania, southern Michigan, and northern Kentucky. Nationwide expansion is a future goal, dependent on funding, operating capacity, and local requirements. Deck photos credited to Charley’s Decks show its portfolio work. The homepage porch photo is credited to Wounded Warrior Project and illustrates outdoor access. Additional stock photographs from Pexels illustrate outdoor access, deck spaces, community, and construction. These images do not represent completed Decks4Vets builds, recipients, or endorsements. Public donor recognition will begin only with confirmed support and the donor’s permission; cash gifts, materials, and donated labor will be recognized separately.

Help shape the launch
